Quartz
Synopsis
Quartz is a shoot'em up with a variety of sequences. The first sequence (and all odd sequences) is viewed from above and scrolls in all directions. In addition to the standard attack waves, there are large red/blue/yellow balls that split on impact Asteroid-style, and once the smaller ones are destroyed, they release tokens. Once you've collected 9, you can choose a power-up from a range including various weapons, restart points (which allows you to continue infinitely when using an emulator's "snapshot" function), and ship repairs. Destroying the set of standard waves yields combo tokens that add one token to each of the three colors.
Even waves scroll in one direction, but include waves coming at you from other directions, even from inside the 3D screen. You can have up to 3 power-ups stored on your ship at a time, and choose one to activate by pressing F1-F3, they all have limited firepower. Unusually, when you have no more lives, death does not result in game over, but in the loss of one of your bonuses (of your choice).
