Synopsis

Shadows of Darkness is the fourth Quest for Glory game. It is a journey to the land of Mordavia, a setting influenced by Eastern Europe, particularly its Slavic region. The hero was just beginning to enjoy his victory at Tarna, when a spell sent him to unknown regions, without weapons, objects or even a source of light. Shortly after successfully getting out of the dark cave, the hero meets a mysterious woman named Katrina. He crosses the swamps of the dark forest and finally reaches the city. However, the city is also immersed in an ominous atmosphere and the hero cannot afford to relax. He must find out what is happening, why the townspeople are so hesitant and reluctant to help him, and what horrors lurk outside its walls. Life has never been so dangerous for our hero. He will discover his quest soon enough, if he survives.

Like previous Quest For Glory titles, the game is a combination of puzzle-solving adventure and role-playing game. The player character can be a fighter, thief, magician, or paladin. Importing a character from a previous episode of the series is also possible. Once again, the hero improves his skills by using them repeatedly (such as throwing stones at a tree to improve his throwing ability, which might be necessary to solve a puzzle).

The combat system in this version has undergone a major change. Battles are viewed from a side-scrolling perspective and are action-oriented. The protagonist is able to move freely, jump and execute attacks and defensive moves, similar to fighting games. The CD version of the game adds voiceovers to conversations as well as the narrator's voice to text descriptions.
