Synopsis

Racter strings words together according to “syntactic directives,” and the illusion of coherence is reinforced by the repeated reuse of textual variables. This makes it seem like Racter can actually have a conversation with the user that makes sense, unlike Eliza, who just spits out what you type at her. Of course, such a program has not yet been written to perfection, but Racter comes close.

As some of the syntax errors Racter tends to make cannot be avoided, it was decided to market the game in a humorous vein, which Mindscape's marketing department dubbed "language software in a chip" and "artificial madness".
