Synopsis

Based on the popular manga/anime series of the same name, Ranma 1/2 follows the story of an aspiring martial artist who accidentally transforms into a young woman by falling into a cursed spring. It can return to its natural form upon contact with hot water. However, contact with cold water will turn him into a girl again. Most of the story in the original manga is devoted to semi-comic situations, based on Ranma trying to cover up his situation, leading to misunderstandings, confusion, and romantic complications in high school.
This interpretation of the license follows part of the manga's initial story, beginning with the curse and moving through Ranma's early conflicts with classmates and rival martial artists. The game is primarily structured as a side-scrolling "beat-'em-up", although there are also several boss fights that are more reminiscent of a two-person fighting game. The vs mode allows the player to recreate these boss fights using different characters.
Ranma's curse becomes a feature of the game: cold and hot waters turn Ranma into a girl and a boy, respectively. Female Ranma is faster and can jump higher, but her attacks and defense are weaker. Anime-style cutscenes advance the story between levels.
