Rayxanber 3
Synopsis
Rayxanber III is much less known than the previous part, also released on PC Engine. However, it turns out to be much better. In reality, Rayxanber II stood out above all for its rotten difficulty capable of annoying any even the most knowledgeable Buddhist. With this third episode, the people at Data West took into account the players' complaints.
We always find ourselves in the presence of a "stupid progression shoot'em up", that is to say that we must progress by memorizing the game otherwise we will lose lives very quickly. Except that here, most of the times we lose, it is indeed the fault of the player and not the fault of a diabolically convoluted level design.
The latter, however, is much more worked. This is felt from the first level where you turn around the mothership to finally be propelled into a more classic horizontal scrolling but really fast and very detailed. Because the production has clearly gone up a notch. Graphically, it's superb, shit and all. And of course, no slowdown or flashing, we're on PC Engine!
Gameplay-wise, it's pretty much the same thing as in the previous episode: you change weapons by collecting pellets. The originality comes from the fact that the latter have a small line which will define the orientation of this secondary fire. It's up to you to take the item at the right time to be able to shoot where you want. There is still no smart bomb, but the opponents are much easier to shoot. No need to shoot them for several seconds to overcome them, it gives a much more satisfying impression of power than in Rayxanber II. On the other hand, you have a great shot. When you hold down the button, your ship drops the mash, but a gauge rises. Once full, you release the button to fire two beautiful rockets which will do a little cleaning. An alternative to R-Type's concentrated fire.
