Synopsis

Red Heat is inspired by the eponymous film by Walter Hill, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Belushi. You play as Ivan Danko (played by Schwarzenegger), a Soviet detective sent to Chicago to track down the fearsome Georgian drug lord Victor Rosta.

The game is a side-scrolling beat'em up in the vein of Vigilante. As Danko, you progress through four levels faithful to the film's setting, where you are constantly attacked by the Cleanheads, a group of drug traffickers associated with Victor Rosta. To eliminate your enemies, you can punch them (slow but at long range) or headbutt them (melee but faster). The only possible defense is to crouch to avoid blows; there is no jumping or other dodging tactics. Occasionally, you can grab a gun and fire six bullets at enemies. Other items to collect will allow you to improve your health, access bonus levels or temporarily lose control of Danko.
