Synopsis

Salamander, renamed Life Force in North America and for its reissue on an arcade machine in Japan, is a shoot 'em up developed and published by Konami, released in 1986 on an arcade machine. It has been adapted for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MSX, Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, X68000 and ZX Spectrum.

It is a derivative of the Gradius series which had a sequel, Salamander 2, released in 1996.

The player directs the Vic Viper ship through six stages alternating horizontal scrolling and vertical scrolling. It is possible to collect power-ups to improve the ship's armament, for example multiple shots. Bosses must be defeated by destroying their hearts.
