Synopsis

Salamander, renamed Life Force in North America and for its reissue on arcade terminal in Japan, is a shoot them up developed and published by Konami, released in 1986 on arcade terminal. It has been adapted for Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, MSX, Nintendo Entertainment System, PC Engine, X68000 and ZX Spectrum.

It is a derivative of the series Gradius that had a sequel, Salamander 2, released in 1996.

The player steers the ship Vic Viper through six stages alternating horizontal and vertical scrolling. It is possible to recover power-ups to improve the armament of the ship, for example a multiple shot. Bosses must be defeated by destroying their hearts.
