BIOS Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (puce de sécurité TMSS)
Do you like this game?
Description
This tiny boot ROM (less than a kilobyte) equips the late versions of the Mega Drive/Genesis from 1990, following a lawsuit between Sega and Accolade concerning the non-licensed cartridges. Known as TMSS (Trademark Security System), it checks for the presence of the "SEGA" string at the beginning of each cartridge before allowing the game to start, displaying the message "PRODUCED BY OR UNDER LICENSE FROM SEGA ENTERPRISES LTD." on the screen. This check is why some unofficial adapters and cartridges require workarounds to work on recent console models.
