Synopsis

Mah-Jong is, as you probably know, a traditional puzzle game in Asia, and tradition generally means simple rules. Of course there have to be exceptions, and the rules of mahjong are quite delicate. Fortunately, this is again a simplified version.


A game of mahjong consists of a wheelbarrow (or a shovelful, depending on your preference) of dominoes called tiles and decorated in various ways. There are several families that we will detail: To begin with there are three ordinary families. Each one includes nine different tiles in four copies each. There is the family of characters, that of bamboos and that of circles. For comparison, we can compare these families to the suits of Western card games. These are the “basic” tiles. Then there are the honors. There are two kinds of honors: dragons which include three different tiles (green, red and white dragons) and winds which include four (south, east, north and west winds).
