Synopsis

The game takes place four years after the end of Soulcalibur, which places the game's story in 1590 AD.

The wave of massacres that terrorized Europe suddenly stopped. The knight in azure armor, Nightmare, and his followers have managed to collect enough souls and are about to begin the ceremony of restoring the ruins of the once proud Osthreinsburg Castle. But just as the ceremony was about to begin, three young warriors stormed the castle. In no time, the sect was defeated and Nightmare found himself facing the young warriors wielding Soul Edge. After an intense battle, Nightmare fell, but the evil soul of Soul Edge sent the young warriors into a whirlwind of hellfire and rose to confront them. Under the effect of Soul Edge's evil aura, Krita-Yuga revealed her true form: that of the sacred sword Soul Calibur.

The intense fight ended with the victory of the sacred sword, but during the collapse of the infernal vortex, both swords as well as the Azure Knight Nightmare were sucked into the void and expelled to another location. Siegfried Schtauffen, who until a moment had been standing in front of the Azure Knight, came to his senses. Recognizing his sins, he set out on a journey of atonement. Yet the blade held a strong bond, and each night it took control of the body and took away the souls of those nearby. The young knight's efforts were in vain and, four years later, the Azure Knight returned.

Around this time, several warriors came into contact with the remaining fragments of the blade, revealing the ultimate survival of Soul Edge. After his defeat, the fragments began to spread chaos and evil throughout the world. Driven to possess or destroy the evil sword, each warrior sets out on a new journey, while Nightmare begins his carnage anew, searching for souls to gain the power to restore Soul Edge once more...
