Synopsis

Spire of the Ancients shifts perspective entirely into an immersive grid-based, first-person view.

Players navigate sprawling, maze-like underground catacombs and ancient ruins. The primary goal centers around exploring a massive map, slaying monsters, collecting loot and surviving increasingly difficult depths.

The mechanics allow players to equip separate items in each hand (e.g., a sword in one hand, a shield or torch in the other) controlled via unique button configurations.

The developer uniquely coded distance-based audio into the game. The volume of enemy grunts and footsteps scales dynamically based on how close they are to your coordinate position.

To handle the intricate controls of an RPG (like inventory management and strafing), the game supports control schemes, including Atari 7800 keypads and modern twin-stick setups.

The game features dedicated checkpoint statues. Reaching a checkpoint entirely restores your stats and serves as your hard save point.
