Synopsis

The StudyBox, released by Fukutake Publishing, resembled a cassette player for the Famicom. This accessory was small enough to sit on top of the Famicom and plug into its connector. Like a cassette player, the top of the StudyBox opened to reveal the compartment where the cassettes were inserted. Unlike a traditional player, the StudyBox did not have standard buttons like Play, Stop, Pause, Fast Forward or Back. Instead, the user, likely a student, used the Famicom controller and on-screen directions to play the tapes. It is unclear what exactly these cassettes contained, but the purpose of the StudyBox was to make the Famicom more educational, allowing students to learn the content of the audio cassettes, which contained only sound and voice, without any visuals to accompany the learning.
