Synopsis

In the 12th century, Emperor Hui Zhong faced an internal rebellion led by the imperial minister Gao Qiu. The Song dynasty collapsed and Gao Qiu rose to power. You play as an exiled ruler and must develop your skills to be able to challenge – and defeat – Gao Qiu and restore Hui Zhong to the throne.

This military strategy game, like most Koei titles, asks you to overthrow the despotic leader of China, rather than conquer a country. You start small and must rise through the ranks by conquering prefectures, forming alliances and winning battles. However, attacking Gao Qiu's home prefecture will be reserved for you until you are powerful enough.
