Synopsis

The lost colony of Alterra is an entirely man-made world, abandoned long ago in a neighboring galaxy. Alterra is actually five colonies in one. Each autonomous habitat was separately bio-engineered by a powerful ecosystem generation network known as the Multiple Organism Unit Link. MORGUL, for short. The first settlers used MORGUL to make Alterra habitable. But a cataclysmic earthquake disrupted all system interface functions, and MORGUL rebelled in murderous fashion. The few settlers who were lucky enough to escape told the dark tale of a superior intelligence gone berserk.

For generations, humanity has sought to return to Alterra. Eventually, genetic science created a savior: Turrican, a mutant warrior, bio-engineered for the task of planetary restoration. In the meantime, MORGUL has diligently warped Alterran lifeforms for its brutal and destructive purposes. Thus, Turrican's challenges consist of eliminating hostile organisms from the five multi-level worlds of Alterra and, finally, destroying the three faces of MORGUL.
