Takeshi No Chousenjou
Synopsis
Takeshi No Chousenjou is a strange and controversial side-scrolling adventure game where the character wanders the streets and buildings of Tokyo and then the islands of the South Pacific. The game's plot (a discouraged salaryman seeks to find hidden treasure on an island) is presented as having been created by Takeshi Kitano (actor, animator, comedian, etc.) while he was drunk in a bar. Kitano explains, however, that the plot was only the result of an hour-long conversation in a cafe near his production company. In any case, the latter claims to hate video games.
The player first fights against his boss and co-workers, then against yakuza gangsters in a pachinko gambling establishment. The player can use a hang glider to fly over a strange land called the "Red Country" (an amalgamation of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany). He can sing in karaoke (using the microphone built into the second controller not available on the American and European versions). He can divorce you and even beat his wife and children (presumably to death). The player must decipher a map, which requires the player to wait between five and ten minutes before shouting into the microphone of the second controller, or optionally wait an hour without touching the controls so that the map becomes readable by itself. The detail being that nothing tells the player what he must do during this phase and that no clue in the game is provided on the length of time to wait.
In short, despite its controversial game design, Takeshi no Chousenjou is regularly listed by the Japanese public in the rankings of the best Famicom games (perhaps out of sarcasm). On the end screen of the game, the player who waits five minutes can see Takeshi appear and say: “Why did you take this game so seriously? ". 30,720 punches on the start screen also win.
