Synopsis

Tao (??, lit. "Road") is an adventure video game for the Nintendo Family Computer about the life of a nomad in search of spiritual enlightenment.

On the path to enlightenment, the player travels from town to town on quests from various non-player characters during the year 1999.

Along the way, the red-headed character develops an alter ego named Tao (which can be summoned by rubbing on a piece of stone), they must prevent the apocalypse from happening by completing the necessary quests. Players must also visit golden cities to complete the game.

There are elders and ordinary people outside the village who give advice while leaving the town by walking on the railway tracks. A Buddhist temple can be explored near the player's starting point.
