Synopsis

“The Bard's Tale” is with a few others (“Ultima”, “Wizardry”) one of the great series of computer role-playing games of the 80s. Published a few years after the first “Ultima” and designed like it for the Apple II, it benefits from an interface accessible to both the keyboard and the mouse, which is quite appreciable progress. The movements are in pseudo 3D (movement by squares as in the dungeons of “Ultima”) and the fights are resolved in the form of texts.
The races, classes and monsters are close to those of Dungeons and Dragons, which offers a certain choice (human, hobbit, half-elf, half-orc, elf, gnome, dwarf for the races). There are certain variations, such as different classes of ADD or the use of magic points rather than the memorization of spells that we find in the main SSI standards.
The team can include up to 6 characters, and it is essential to have a bard in it, this class being the star of the game as highlighted by the title.
