Synopsis

Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers' Revenge is the fourth game in the Darkstalkers series which features the exact same cast as Night Warriors. The only difference in terms of characters comes mainly from the secret fighters that we find here and not in the other: a John Talbain on acids, even more stressful than the secret character of Vampire Savior, and an identical Oboro Bishamon, on the other hand. To these are also added the four Vampire Savior characters: Lilith, Jedah, Q. Bee and B.B. Hood, to also unlock.

In fact Vampire Hunter 2 is a Night Warriors with the Vampire Savior game system. Suddenly we find the characters and the story of the first, but with the gameplay of the second. When choosing the character, you can decide to play in normal or turbo (accelerated game speed), and with or without automatic guard (your character protects itself from basic hits if you don't touch anything).

The game is played with six buttons and implements all the specific features of the previous episodes: super jumps (down then up), dashes (twice forward or backward), aerial guards, Guard Cancels (manipulations aimed at eliminating the latency time which follows a parry by triggering a special move), ES attacks (special moves more powerful than usual, carried out using two move buttons instead of one), EX Specials which correspond to super special moves of death that kills life, etc.

And then we are also entitled to the two main new features of Dark Savior. First of all, the new life gauge system: hits cause the opponent to lose a portion of life permanently, and another temporarily, so that if he is not hit for a moment, this portion recharges itself. And in the second round, the loser of the first round regains all his life while the winner stays where he was.

As for the other new feature, it is the “Dark Force”. If you press the foot and fist buttons of the same power, you will enter Dark Force mode. Your character then poses for a moment (you are vulnerable during this period, and if you are touched the Dark Force is canceled), then the decor switches to psychedelic mode. A clepsydra appears under your life bar, telling you how much time you have left to take advantage of this mode. Each character gains its own advantage: for example, Morrigan splits and attacks her opponent in a sandwich.
