Vampire Savior 2 : The Lord of Vampire
Synopsis
Vampire Savior 2 is the fifth game in the Darkstalkers series, also a two-dimensional beat 'em up. The roster always revolves around around fifteen characters. Remember that its predecessor removed three from the cast: Donovan (supposed to have become a demon), Huitzil (destroyed) and Pyron (dejected).
Vampire Savior 2 still makes three disappear, namely John Talbain the werewolf, Sasquatch the yeti and Rikuo the merman. And guess who replaces them (since the account is always the same)? Precisely: Donovan, Huitzil and Pyron! It sounds like a joke but it's the truth.
And if you find this a bit exaggerated, remember that this is THE ONE AND ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO GAMES! Oh no, sorry, once you have made your choice you will have to choose whether or not to play in turbo mode, and with or without automatic guard (this last possibility was present in Vampire Hunter 2 but not in Vampire Savior).
The goal of the game is, as always, to empty the opponent's life gauge, but this latest iteration works like its predecessor. In fact, almost all your hits cause the opponent to lose a portion of life permanently, and another temporarily: if he is not hit for a moment, this portion recharges itself. Still in the register of the now-classic-but-which-was-not-before, in the second round the loser of the first round regains all his life while the winner keeps what was left to him.
The game is always played with six buttons: three for kicks (weak, medium and strong) and three for punches (same). As usual, you can perform a whole range of normal attacks, throws, combos and special moves by correctly manipulating the buttons and the joystick.
And then, because you don't change a winning team, you have a special gauge which can be filled over nine levels. To do this, simply hit the opponent. Once this gauge is filled to at least one notch, you can trigger ES attacks, or enhanced special moves, by pressing more than one button while wielding. An example: let's say you release a fireball with a quarter turn forward plus fist (the power of the fist determines that of the fireball), well by doing a quarter turn forward plus two fist buttons instead, you release the same fireball in the ES version, therefore meaner. You can also choose to perform EX attacks. These are unique special moves, generally more complicated to perform than a basic special, and with remarkable effects (both visual and on the opponent's life gauge).
Finally, Vampire Savior 2 continues the momentum of the first and uses the same specificity: the “Dark Force”. If you press the foot and fist buttons of the same power, you will enter Dark Force mode. Your character then poses for a moment (you are vulnerable during this period, and if you are touched the Dark Force is canceled) then the decor switches to psychedelic mode. A clepsydra appears under your life bar, telling you how much time you have left to take advantage of this mode. Each character gains its own advantage: for example, Morrigan splits and attacks her opponent in a sandwich.
