Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire
Synopsis
The third game in the Darkstalkers series.
As for the new kids, we discover B.B. Hood (Bulleta in Japan), a little red riding hood who hides rocket launchers under her skirts; Q. Bee, the queen bee capable of hovering for an instant, a bit like Huitzil previously; Lilith, the damned soul of Morrigan; and Jedah, the spectacularly long demon lord. In addition to these four, we also discover three hidden characters: a Lord Raptor in chainsaw mode/not even bad (you'll understand when you see him); a Bishamon priest version, and a blinking John Talbain even more painful than the original.
In total there are therefore eighteen characters, and you will have to, after making your choice, decide to play in Normal or Turbo mode, the latter increasing the speed of the game, as one would expect. The goal of the game is, as always, to empty the opponent's life gauge, but that said it may last a little longer than usual. In fact, almost all your hits cause the opponent to lose a portion of life permanently, and another "on hold": if he is not hit for a moment, this portion recharges itself. The other cool thing is that in the second round, the loser of the first round regains all his life while the winner stays where he was.
The game is played with six buttons: three for kicks (weak, medium and strong) and three for punches (itou). As usual, you can perform a whole range of normal attacks, throws, combos and special moves by correctly manipulating the buttons and the joystick.
And then, because that's how it is in post-Super Street Fighter II Turbo fighting games, you have a special gauge that can be filled over nine levels. To do this, simply hit the opponent. Once this gauge is filled to at least one notch, you can trigger ES attacks, or enhanced special moves, by pressing more than one button while handling. An example, eh, it will be good. Let's say you release a fireball with a quarter turn forward plus fist (the power of the fist determines that of the ball), well by doing a quarter turn forward plus two fist buttons instead, you release the same fireball in the ES version, therefore meaner. You can also choose to perform EX attacks. These are unique special moves, generally more complicated to perform than a basic special, and with remarkable effects (both visual and on the opponent's life gauge).
Finally, Vampire Savior introduces a little novelty that is not necessarily essential, but not gross either: the “Dark Force”. Yep, like in Star Wars but in a bad boy version. If you press the foot and fist buttons of the same power, you will enter Dark Force mode. Your character then poses for a moment (you are vulnerable during this period, and if you are touched the Dark Force is canceled), then the decor switches to psychedelic mode. A clepsydra appears under your life bar, telling you how much time you have left to take advantage of this mode. Each character gains their own advantage: for example, Morrigan splits and attacks her opponent in a sandwich (and if it didn't hurt so much, I'm sure the opponent wouldn't complain!).
