Synopsis

Among the many hockey games released, this version not only allowed the player to control Gretzky, but also other great players of the time such as Mario Lemieux, Eric Lindros, Mark Messier and many others, making 600 in total. It also offered all 26 NHL teams of the time as well as 6 international teams to choose from.

The gameplay is similar to many other hockey games, with standard modes such as Exhibition, Season, Playoffs or even a "Just Play" option which allowed the player to instantly enter a random match. There is also a "simulation mode" which gives the game an authentic feel with penalties, or a more action-oriented "arcade mode" with fewer rules. A battery backup helps maintain all stats and also provides a two-player option.
