Synopsis

White Death is based on the board game of the same name and deals with the fighting around the Russian village of Velikiye Luki in 1942. There are six scenarios, dealing with different phases of the fight, and the player takes on the role of either the German or Russian side.

This is one of those games that attempts to simulate not only the storyline, but also the war and its tactics as closely as possible. Presented as a typical overhead view on a hexagonal grid map, the player issues orders to units via a menu system. Units are represented by icons which each have a small bar indicating their strength and movement. The player must also consider other elements, such as morale, terrain, support, and tactical unit placement/movement.
