Synopsis

Wing Commander Academy places players in the role of a young recruit fresh to the Confederation Academy, where new pilots must test their skills in the simulator. Unlike other Wing Commander games, Wing Commander Academy does not feature a storyline or campaign. Instead, players can take on simple dogfight missions or create "waypoints" on a radar-like interface. Using this mission generator, the player can place objects such as friendly fighters, enemy fighters, enemy capital ships, space stations, and ejected pilots.

The controls and graphics of Wing Commander Academy are almost directly copied from Wing Commander II. Like that game, the player participates in a first-person space battle against Kilrathi forces in 360° space. Players can choose different ships, weapon types and teammates.
