Synopsis

Yume Kôjô: Doki Doki Panic is a platform game released on the Famicom Disk System, an accessory allowing you to read floppy disks on the NES. This title is inspired by a Japanese show and allows you to lead one of the four characters in different worlds until you beat the horrible Wart. For the record, Yume Kôjô: Doki Doki Panic will be modified by Nintendo to be released in the USA under the name Super Mario Bros. 2 with the characters Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach.
In this first version, Imajin replaces Mario as a balanced character, his mother Mama replaces Luigi as the highest jumping character (Luigi already jumped higher than Mario in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.), the latter however jumps slightly lower than Luigi. Lina, Imajin's friend who can levitate, replaces Princess Toadstool (Lina's movements will inspire 2 possible movements of Peach in Super Smash Bros and she will keep this power of levitation in certain other games like in Super Mario 3D World). Finally Papa, Imajin's father who is the strongest character in the game and the fastest but very weak in jumping replaces Toad. There remains Poki and Piki, 2 non-playable characters, twins and little brothers of Imajin who are kidnapped by Mamu (renamed Wart in Super Mario Bros 2) at the start of the game. They are replaced by fairies in Super Mario Bros 2. And certain enemies of Mario such as Shy Guys, Birdos, Pokeys and Bob-ombs appear in this opus.
The story takes place in a book which tells the tale of the country of Mu where the quality of the dreams of its inhabitants will determine the quality of the following day. In order to have only beautiful sunny days, the inhabitants of Mu invented a dream machine but one day the evil frog Mamu (later named Wart) invaded the country and transformed the machine into a nightmare machine. The people of Mu managed to defeat him by using his weak point: vegetables.
This book ended up falling into the hands of the monkey Rusa who brought it back to his adopted family, the Arab family of Imajin. The twins Poki and Piki fought over it and ended up tearing the last page of the book, freeing Mamu and undoing the end of the story. Mamu kidnapped the twins and went to change the story directly in the book. Rusa alerted their brother Imajin, his parents and Lina who all went after Mamu and the twins in the book.
