Citra has not been under active development since 2024. The project has been discontinued and its repository closed. It is no longer updated, no longer receives patches, and no longer benefits from recent optimizations.
What to use instead
The community has taken up the torch with Azahar, which builds on Citra’s foundation and continues its development: bug fixes, Vulkan support, expanded compatibility, and up-to-date versions for Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android.
If you’re still using Citra, switching to Azahar is straightforward: your game files and save data remain compatible.
What about older versions of Citra?
They still work, but you’ll miss out on several years of improvements, particularly Vulkan rendering, which has significantly improved stability on AMD GPUs and on mobile devices. There’s no reason to stick with them.
