RPCS3

RPCS3 emulates the PlayStation 3 and now offers impressively broad compatibility. It needs the official Sony firmware, which contains the essential system libraries.

1. Install the firmware

1. Get the PS3UPDAT.PUP file — this is the system firmware, publicly distributed by Sony.
2. In RPCS3: File → Install Firmware.
3. Select the file. Extraction takes anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes.
4. The installed version then appears in the title bar — that's confirmation it worked.

Aim for version 4.91 or newer. Several games perform trophy- or save-related checks that fail on older firmware, even under emulation.

2. Add your games

1. RPCS3 works most easily with games decrypted as a folder. Disc images must be decrypted and extracted beforehand.
2. File → Add Games, then point it to the parent folder.
3. For updates and DLC, use the emulator's package installer, applying them in version order when there are several.

3. Settings

• Renderer: Vulkan.
• Leave the default configuration on first launch: RPCS3 ships with per-game settings that are often better tuned than what you'll find on forums.
• Check the official compatibility list before struggling too long: some titles are still marked "Intro" or "Loadable".

4. Not working?

• The game doesn't appear → the folder structure is wrong, or the game isn't decrypted.
• Crash on startup → firmware too old, or GPU drivers need updating.
