The Big Walk Flight Glitch: The Complete Guide to Finishing the Game in 8 Minutes

A light bulb, three keys and a bit of rhythm are enough to fly over the whole Big Walk map. Here is the step-by-step method speedrunners have used since August 2026.

Big Walk, the cooperative stroll from House House released on August 4, 2026 for PC, Mac, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, is meant to fill somewhere between nine and fifteen hours. Speedrunners have cut it down to under nine minutes by exploiting a movement bug: by manipulating a carryable item during a jump, the game hands the character a fresh jump while still airborne. Repeated in a loop, the trick turns walking into free flight and leads straight to the ending.

⚠️ Check the state of the game before you start. This guide reflects the situation as of September 1, 2026: the glitch still works on the PC and PS5 versions, a month after release. It is a movement bug, so a patch could remove it at any moment without warning. If the trick gives you nothing despite correct execution, first check whether a game update has landed in the meantime, then look at the community forums on speedrun.com, where runners report patches immediately.

Requirements

You need: a copy of Big Walk on Steam, the Epic Games Store or PS5; preferably a keyboard and mouse, since that is the setup the method is best documented for; a carryable item, in practice the light bulb picked up in the opening courtyard; and some patience, as the input window is tight. No external tool, no mod and no file editing are involved: everything is done with the game's normal controls.

Steps

1. Start a game and stay in the opening courtyard. Pick up the light bulb found there: it is the carryable item every runner uses, though the principle works with any object the character can hold.

2. Before trying anything, remap your controls in the options. The setup chosen by runner Chocler, who posted the first sub-nine-minute solo run, puts jump on the mouse scroll wheel, drop on the F key and grab on the G key. The reason is mechanical: you roll a finger from F to G while the wheel chains jumps, which is far more consistent than using the space bar.

3. Practise on flat ground first, well away from water and drops. The cycle goes like this: jump while holding the bulb, drop it while you are airborne, grab it back immediately, and that recovery hands you a usable jump right away. Every clean cycle gains you a little height.

4. Chain the cycles without stopping. This is the hard part: the window between dropping and re-grabbing is very short, and a single mistake drops you back down. Until you can hold ten to fifteen cycles in a row on flat ground, there is no point attempting the map crossing.

5. To steer once airborne, hold sprint and your forward key throughout the loop. The character keeps its horizontal momentum on each jump, letting you pick a heading while continuing to climb.

6. The record route starts from the tutorial courtyard, goes straight over the green wall, and ignores all the elevated paths as well as the red bridge. Then aim for the big black globe on the final island, land beside it and walk through the ending door. That trajectory is what produces the best times.

What it looks like in a run, and what changes on a controller

On the official leaderboards, the Big Goodbye Unrestricted category has been led by OLIVERb at 8 minutes and 37 seconds since August 5, 2026, with Chocler having posted a solo run of 8 minutes and 41 seconds. For comparison, the best glitch-free time still takes a duo 1 hour, 21 minutes and 46 seconds. There is also a second exploit, independent of flying, which uses a ball's collision to clip outside the map and bypass locked gates: that is the basis of the Flightless category, led by Bowbeau at 10 minutes and 33 seconds. On PS5 the glitch is definitely present, but no controller recipe is as stable as the keyboard method: console players adapt the remapping case by case, with less consistent results. A full demonstration of the technique is available on video:
