BitLink DC: transforms your Dreamcast controller into a wireless gyroscopic racing wheel
The Sega Dreamcast had a lot of qualities for its time - but motion control wasn't one of them. 8BitMods, specialist in quality retro accessories and mods, has just changed that with the BitLink DC Kit: an adaptor that brings the gyroscope s years ahead of the original Dreamcast controller, in 2026.
🎮 How does it work?
The BitLink DC is a compact adapter that plugs between the Dreamcast controller and the console. It integrates a gyroscopic sensor that detects the orientation and movements of the controller, and transmits them wirelessly to the Dreamcast. No need to solder, no need to modify the original console or controller.
In the demo video shared by 8BitMods on May 4, we see F355 Challenge strong> (Sega's Ferrari simulation) played by physically tilting the controller like a car steering wheel - and it works amazingly, with lag described as "minimal". In Quake, the gyroscope replaces the aiming stick for a smooth freeview like gyro-aiming Sw itch.
🔧 Compatibility and use cases
The BitLink DC is compatible with all standard Dreamcast controllers. According to 8BitMods, it works with any racing game that supports the analog steering wheel - which covers a good portion of the Dreamcast catalogue (Daytona USA 2001, Sega Rally 2, Le Mans 24, Monaco GP Racing Simulation 2...). Gyro-aiming works in compatible FPSs.
The wireless connection also means getting rid of the usually too short cable of the original Dreamcast controllers. A significant bonus.
📅 Price and availability
The BitLink DC Kit is priced at £69.98. Pre-orders are open on the 8BitMods website, with delivery expected in September 2026. Available at 8bitmods.com.
