Modder turns a Fisher-Price baby toy into a fully functional Game Boy Color
Fisher-Price's "Laugh & Learn Lil' Gamer," a toddler toy loosely styled after the Game Boy, was obviously never meant to run real games. That's exactly the challenge modder KOUZEX took on, posting a video on August 11, 2026 detailing the toy's full transformation into a working console.
A genuine Game Boy Color motherboard grafted into the plastic shell
Rather than taking the easy route of stuffing a Raspberry Pi and a software emulator inside, KOUZEX chose the harder path: transplanting an authentic Game Boy Color motherboard salvaged from a unit with a broken screen. Fitting the board inside the toy's shell took some creative rewiring, a power backfeed issue had to be solved, and a new AMOLED screen, far more readable than the original's greenish LCD, was soldered in while keeping the toy's chunky colorful buttons and overall look intact. A USB-C port was also added for charging. The result actually boots the real Game Boy Color firmware and runs original cartridges like Pokémon Crystal and Grand Theft Auto.
The full build video, posted on KOUZEX's YouTube channel, walks through every step of the conversion for anyone tempted to try it with their own secondhand toys.
