“Kawaii”: a Nintendo Wii reduced to the size of a CNC aluminum key ring
The portablizing world continues to push its limits. After the portable Wiis the size of a Game Boy, here is the Kawaii: a functional Nintendo Wii reduced to the size of a keychain. Presented by modder Yveltal Griffin and tested on video by Tito of Macho Nacho Productions, it immediately atement has been described as “the craziest console mod I’ve ever seen.”
📐 What is the concept?
Kawaii is a case 6061 CNC aluminum the size of a keychain (slightly larger than a Dreamcast VMU, for visualization) that contains a he extremely tried Nintendo Wii motherboard, accompanied by a Thundervolt PCB for power, an internal Kawaii PCB, and a dock PCB. All the circuitry is miniaturized, wired by hand, and housed in this small block of precision machined aluminum.
The result is a real one. Wii - not an emulation, not a clone - capable of running Wii and GameCube games from internal storage, in a format that can be slipped into a e pocket.
⚠️ Reserved for experts
Yveltal Griffin is very clear on this:“Kawaii will be a difficult build, and there will be no k it complete to purchase, not even a step-by-step assembly guide."What the project offers is only the CNC aluminum shell. For the rest, the builder must:
- Trim the Wii motherboard to the required dimensions
- Assemble the Thundervolt PCB
- Assemble e t solder the internal Kawaii PCB
- Assemble the dock PCB
- Do all the internal wiring
This is not a project for beginners. This is the top of the Wii portablizing pyramid-a technical feat for those who already are well-versed in console modding. Photos of the test case (unpainted, from the factory) have been shared to show the progress of the project.
