PC5SX2: a modded PS5 can play physical PS2 discs
A new emulator called PC5SX2 is making waves in the PS5 scene: in version 2.02, it lets a modified console read PS2 games directly from a physical disc. According to Time Extension on October 14, 2026, once the emulator is installed, you simply insert a PS2 disc and the emulator either streams its contents live or dumps them if the user prefers. Launch is said to be almost immediate. Videos posted on social media reportedly show World Rally Championship, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier running from the disc.
The project is described as coded with the help of AI, and according to community sources its author is a developer known as Swordpdf. They are also said to have used another AI tool to adapt the code for PS3 discs, a claim the press has not clarified.
The limits to know about
You need a modded PS5 and a disc drive. Since the PS5 drive cannot read CD-ROMs, only PS2 games pressed on DVD work. The article does not specify the required firmware version and gives no code repository or download link, so we list none and advise downloading only from a clearly identified source. Almost everything reported rests on community accounts and videos, not independently verified.
The context is Sony's stated move away from physical releases toward an all-digital model, which some see as a motivation for the project. The legal status of emulation and modified consoles remains unclear, and any modded console risks an online ban or loss of warranty.
