Jailbreaking your PS Vita in 2026: the complete beginner's HENkaku + Enso guide

How to install HENkaku and its persistence plugin Enso on a PS Vita using VitaDeploy, the recommended all-in-one tool for 2026: prerequisites, detailed steps and precautions for a complete beginner.

The PS Vita has enjoyed a stable, well-documented jailbreak for years: HENkaku, topped off with the Enso plugin that makes it permanent, with no need to re-trigger the exploit at every boot. The easiest route for a beginner in 2026 is VitaDeploy, an all-in-one tool that handles both the firmware update and the Enso install.

⚠️ Check your version before you start. This guide reflects the situation as of August 12, 2026: firmware 3.65 remains the recommended target for a permanent Enso install via VitaDeploy. Newer firmwares (3.67, 3.68) have an exploit available (h-encore) but no persistent Enso, meaning you'll need to re-trigger the exploit every reboot. Always check the official Vita Hacks Guide to see if compatibility has been extended since.

Prerequisites

You'll need: a PS Vita or PSTV on firmware 3.60 to 3.74; a stable Wi-Fi connection; a battery charged above 50% (never let the console fall asleep during the install); and a memory card or microSD (with an SD2Vita adapter) if you plan on installing games afterward.

Installation steps

1. Check your current firmware version under Settings → System Information.
2. If you're not jailbroken yet, install VitaDeploy following the official repository's instructions: the first step is usually triggering a base exploit (h-encore) through the console's browser to get temporary homebrew access.
3. From the VitaDeploy menu, choose the "Quick 3.65 Install" option: the tool updates your console to firmware 3.65 and installs Enso automatically in a single operation.
4. Keep your console connected to Wi-Fi and never let it fall asleep until the process is complete.
5. Once it's done, reboot the console: Enso activates on its own at power-on, with no exploit to re-trigger.
6. Use VitaShell (installed automatically by VitaDeploy) to install more homebrew in .vpk format.

Important warnings

Never update your PS Vita through the PlayStation Network once modded, or you risk losing the jailbreak or even permanently patching the exploit. Brick risk stays very low with VitaDeploy as long as the console stays powered and connected throughout the process. RetroVault only endorses using backups of games you legally own.
