RecompOne: a PS1 recompilation tool that claims not a single line of its code was written by AI

Developer Flaffy releases RecompOne, a static recompilation framework for PlayStation already tested on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, in direct contrast with a rival project largely coded with the help of Claude.

Computer science student and developer Flaffy shared a progress update in early July 2026 on RecompOne, a static recompilation framework that translates PlayStation executables into C# before wrapping them in a compatibility layer capable of running these games natively on modern PCs.

The project, open-sourced under the MIT license on GitHub, draws direct inspiration from N64Recomp and XenonRecomp, which popularized this approach in recent years. The core framework is complete, while the compatibility layer that translates PS1 hardware calls to modern hardware still needs bug fixes before it can support finished ports; an early test with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night already runs correctly in 16:9.

Flaffy was keen to point out that "this project is not vibe-coded, AI was not involved in writing the code," a statement that carries extra weight next to a rival PS1 recompilation project where nearly half of the code commits reportedly come from Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant.

The full source code and build instructions are freely available in the GitHub repository's README, for developers looking to experiment with recompiling their own PS1 games or to contribute to the project.
