Sega Rally Championship hits the road on real Nintendo 64 hardware
Having already gotten Tomb Raider running on Nintendo 64 nearly thirty years after Core Design's official version was cancelled, developer Snake is now tackling a new challenge: porting Sega Rally Championship, the cult racing game originally released on PC in 1997, to Nintendo's 64-bit console.
Early footage, shared via a demo video and detailed on the project's ReCollect64 blog, shows the game running on real N64 hardware. The port is built directly on the original 1997 PC version and is currently targeting 30 frames per second, a performance goal not quite reached yet according to the developer.
Still a lot of work before crossing the finish line
Snake plans to increase draw distance in upcoming versions of the port, which remains at the technical demo stage. No release date has been announced at this time, as the developer focuses on optimizing performance before considering a wider release of the project.
