Zool Collection Announced for Atari Jaguar, the Ninja's Third Return in 2026

Songbird Productions announced the Zool Collection on August 28, 2026, a compilation aimed at the Atari Jaguar and scheduled for 2027. The American publisher, which has specialised for years in new releases for Atari's 64-bit console, is teaming up for the occasion with Urbanscan Ltd, holder of the licence rights, and with the development collective Reboot.

The cartridge will bring together two games. On one side the first Zool, whose conversion is based on the Atari STE version, never released on the Jaguar at the time. On the other a reprint of Zool 2, released on the console in 1994 and since become a title sought after by collectors, with prices climbing steadily on the second-hand market. Bringing both episodes together on a single medium is therefore as much a preservation move as a convenience for owners of the machine.

Several stretch goals are mentioned to flesh out the compilation. They mainly concern Zool 2, with revised controls, extra music and various quality-of-life improvements, all tweaks that should soften the title's reputation for harshness. Songbird has not yet detailed the exact content of each tier, nor opened pre-orders.

The announcement lands in a surprisingly busy year for the ant ninja. Zool already received a Mega Drive reissue from 33 Games in 2026, followed by the announcement of a Zool 64 from Umbra Dynamics. The Zool Collection is therefore the character's third resurrection in a matter of months. The publisher's Jaguar catalogue can be browsed on the official Songbird Productions store, and the thread opened on the AtariAge forums gathers technical details and questions put directly to the developers.
