Synopsis

A cocktail is a type of mixed drink. Originally it was a mixture of distilled spirits, sugar, water and bitters. The word gradually came to mean almost all mixed drinks containing alcohol. Today, a cocktail usually contains one or more types of liquors and flavorings and one or more liqueurs, fruit juices, sugar, honey, water, ice, soda, milk, cream, herbs, bitters, etc.
A cocktail glass, martini glass or stemmed cocktail glass, is a drinking glass with a cone-shaped bowl (the tip of the cone forming an angle of approximately 90 degrees in cross section) on a stem above a flat base, used for serving a cocktail or champagne. As with other stemmed glasses, the stem allows the drinker to hold the glass without affecting the temperature of the drink.
