Synopsis

The crew of the spaceship Bebop is a partnership of bounty hunters, called "cowboys", who travel the solar system in an attempt to apprehend bounties. Jet Black is the owner of the Bebop, but has teamed up with Spike for his various combat skills. Although he is reluctant to admit it, Jet has also come to rely on Spike to keep him company in the normally solitary realm of bounty hunting. In 2022, the explosion of an experimental warp gateway caused major damage to the Moon and Earth, killing almost all life and ending Earth civilization. As a result, the survivors abandoned the now uninhabitable Earth to colonize the planets and inner moons of Jupiter. Little to no knowledge remains of the history of Earth and humanity before the accident, creating a cultural void. In the series timeline, decades after the accident, the entire solar system has become accessible via reliable warp gates, but the Bebop crew regularly spends much of their time on Mars, the new nerve center of human civilization.
