Synopsis

Chess is a two-player board game played on a chessboard, a square checkerboard of 64 squares arranged in a grid of eight by eight squares. It is one of the most popular games in the world, played by millions of people around the world, at home, in clubs, online, by match and in tournaments.
Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: a king, a queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops and eight pawns, each of these types of pieces moving differently. Pieces are used to attack and capture opponent's pieces. The object of the game is to put the opponent's king in check by subjecting it to a threat of capture ("check") that cannot be avoided.
