Synopsis

The PlayStation re-release of Final Fantasy based on the Wonderswan Color version, and most of the changes remained from this version. However, there are some differences:

Higher resolution graphics. Although the graphics are the same as in the WonderSwan Color version, the PlayStation's higher display resolution means that the graphics have been enhanced in some way, with a bit more detail.

Remixed Soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu remixed the Soundtrack to the same quality as Final Fantasy IX to utilize the PlayStation's audio capabilities and also composed some new tracks like those used in the opening full motion video.
Transcribed script. In the Japanese version, the script was changed to include kanji. The English translation, too, has been completely retranscribed, and is, in most cases, closer to the Japanese version than the NES version was. Magic and character names are also improved from four to six characters.

Even more save space. Save data only takes up one block on the PlayStation's memory card, meaning that fifteen different saves can be made on one memory card. The “quick save” function of the WonderSwan Color version has been removed but replaced with the “memo save” function where the game can be quickly saved to the PlayStation Ram. This data remains in the system until it is turned off.
Added full motion video and a bonus mode. The game now includes full motion video (pre-recorded cutscenes). A bonus section is also available. It includes a bestiary, an art gallery and a collection of items unlocked as the player advances in his quest.

A new "Easy Mode" has been introduced in which prices in stores have been reduced, experience points are earned more easily, and stats increase faster. This mode, optional, can be chosen at the start of the game.
