In Bass Rise, you can catch three types of fish: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and bluegill. Besides fishing, the motivation to keep playing comes from collecting more lures (hundreds in total) and searching for new fishing spots: lakes, channels, docks, etc.
Tying the game together are story sequences featuring other anglers who offer advice and challenges, such as catching a certain number of fish in five casts. Additionally, the game offers a multiplayer contest mode supporting up to four players—but they do not compete simultaneously, which somewhat dampens the appeal. Instead, each player gets a fixed number of chances to cast and hook a fish—and the largest catch wins.
