Synopsis

Nitemare-3D is a horror-themed first-person shooter and sequel to the adventure game Hugo III: Jungle of Doom. Penelope, Hugo's girlfriend, is kidnapped by the nefarious Dr. Hamerstein, who intends to conduct terrifying experiments on her. Hugo must explore the Doctor's twisted mansion, travel through underground caverns, and ultimately confront the villain himself and save his sweetheart.

The gameplay largely follows the conventions of Wolfenstein 3D, which the game also visually resembles. However, the game is a bit slower and includes a greater amount of puzzle solving. The game features four weapons: the plasma gun, magic wand, pistol, and auto-repeating plasma gun; enemies can be vulnerable to certain weapons and resistant to others. The levels are mazes and contain secret areas. The first episode was released as shareware; two commercial episodes followed, for a total of thirty levels.
