Synopsis

PoPoLoCrois is a manga series by Tamori Yousuke, originally published in the Asahi Student newspaper (a subsidiary of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper). It was later adapted into two animated series and five console role-playing games. Its title is a combination of words from two languages: Italian "Popolo (people)" and French "croix (crossing)", which together mean "crossing of people". The overall theme of the series is love and compassion, that it doesn't matter what race you belong to, and the importance of friendship.
The first game, "Popolocrois Monogatari", begins on the night of Pietro (also called Pietoro)'s 10th birthday, when he learns that his mother, whom he thought long dead, has been found in a coma. Pietro embarks on a journey with the apprentice forest witch, Narcia, to save his mother's soul from the underworld. Pietro must free his mother's soul and defeat a menacing demon that threatens to destroy the entire kingdom.
The game begins when Pietro, our hero, who looks a little gloomy despite the fact that it is his tenth birthday, goes to see his father, King Paulo. After this, the king enters the tower that he always told Pietro was forbidden, and Pietro decides to follow him. Inside, he finds King Paulo talking to an unconscious Sania, Pietro's mother who he thought was dead.
