Synopsis

The history of the game's development is quite eventful. Its development was announced at the height of the Samurai Shodown series' popularity in 1995, and suffered numerous delays, finally releasing a few years later. For a while there were rumors that it would never be released. As originally planned, the game was to be divided into three episodes: one for each of the three games in the series. For a time it was intended to be a NeoCD exclusive, but financial and development pressures caused SNK to release it on the other two current systems as well. In a somewhat inexplicable marketing move, SNK decided that each version would only contain two of the three episodes, thus forcing the player to purchase two copies of the game to get the whole thing. As expected, this plan received a strong backlash from fans and was scrapped.
