Synopsis

Mahjong is a game for four players originating from China. Mahjong involves skill, strategy and calculation, as well as a certain degree of luck (depending on the variation played, luck can be a minor or dominant factor in victory). In Asia, mahjong is also a very popular game of chance. In this game, each player receives thirteen or sixteen tiles in a hand, depending on the variation played.
On their turn, players draw a tile and discard one, aiming to form four or five suits (also depending on the variation) and a pair, or "head". Victory is achieved "on the draw" by drawing a new tile or a discarded tile that completes the hand. So a winning hand actually contains fourteen (or seventeen) tiles.
